Here’s how to start protecting your peace right now

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week 🧠 With all of the uncertainty that’s filled our lives over the last year, you’re not alone if you feel a bit “all over the place”. In our new blog post, we’re sharing our tried and true tips for protecting your peace, no matter what.

Extreme uncertainty has almost become a part of life at this point!

After months of lockdowns and seemingly ever-changing restrictions, you’re not alone if you’re feeling on edge. Embracing calm has been difficult throughout this year. And maybe, with everything going on, it just hasn’t felt like a priority!

However, as we now seem to be on our way back to “normal”, we hope that you can again begin to focus on looking after yourself. Our schedules are set to get busier again, but we want to encourage you to put protecting your peace at the top of that to-do list.

Easier said than done though, right? Whilst it certainly takes some practice, we promise that building a peace bubble gets easier with practice and that it is beyond worth it! With that in mind, here are our 5 tried and tested tips for protecting your peace, no matter what’s happening around you.

Set “screen time” limits

If there’s one thing you don’t need when you feel like you’re a bit all over the place, it’s a million voices talking at you through your phone!

Setting limits on the time that you do spend online is a powerful way to protect your peace and ensure that you’re focusing on what you need to. Aka you and your needs! However, we’re all a bit guilty of saying “I’ll stop scrolling in 2 minutes”, only to find ourselves still on that FYP 2 hours later.

That’s why we recommend using the settings in your phone to set physical limits that back up your mental boundaries. Use the “screen time” feature (or something similar on your phone) to decide how long you want to spend on each app, when you want to switch off for the night and when you want to switch on in the morning.

Learn to flex your “no” muscle

Just as we’re guilty of a bit too much scrolling, most of us are also guilty of a few too many “yeses”!

Saying “no” to social engagements or anything that will take up your time is something we need to do more often. After all, you’re not going to feel very peaceful at a party wishing you were in front of trash TV, are you?

When you get invited to something, take a deep breath. Step back. Really think. Is this something that you will love doing? Or something that will at least benefit you in the long run?

If not, it’s time to pass up the offer and do something that will fill up your cup instead.

Use your mornings wisely

Sometimes, our mornings are the only time we get to ourselves! It might be the only part of the day where you don’t have family/colleagues/clients/customers in the vicinity. So make the most of it.

We recommend using your mornings – even if only a few minutes of them – to find your centre, before stepping into the day. Make a breakfast you truly love, take some mindful breaths or journal how you’re feeling.

By nourishing yourself in this way, you’ll feel much more resilient throughout the day. That means your peace = protected!

Embrace the power of aromachology

You probably knew this one was coming!

Here at Halcyon Naturals, we harness aromachology in each and every one of our products. Whilst aromatherapy looks at which scents lead to certain physiological effects, aromachology focuses on exactly why certain scents have these effects. It’s the study of how scents work to trigger the human body in the ways that they do.

Curate your online space

Just as you should be cautious of when you consume social media, you should also be conscious of what you are actually consuming!

Too often, we engage with material online that makes us less positive, not more. Whether it’s images that are far from reality, opinions that we just don’t need to hear or that family member that seems to want to get under our skin via Facebook posts, it all adds up.

Reassess who you’re following on every social media platform. If they’re making your online space worse, either unfollow, unfriend or mute them! You might be surprised at how much more at peace you feel when you’re surrounded on socials by positive voices.

At Halcyon Naturals, we’re passionate about curating online spaces that encourage freedom and happiness. Follow us on Instagram  , Facebook, TwitterPinterest, or  TikTok if you want to learn more about aromachology and using it for self-care.

But only if you feel it will help you to protect your peace, of course!
