Whether you’re slowing down the pace post-Christmas or are gearing up for a year filled with adventure, your bedroom should feel like a place to escape to. A room to relax and unwind when the day is done.
We want our homes to be an oasis in 2022, a place of true indulgence no matter what is going on outside our front doors. It’s not always easy to book a last-minute trip to an all-expenses-paid retreat (we wish!), but why should you miss out when you’ve got the tools you need at your fingertips?
Your sleep space is the perfect place to up the luxe, reduce the stress and welcome all of the zen. Here are five simple tips to create the bedroom you’ve always wanted, without stepping foot out the door.
Tip one: Give your sheets an upgrade
A great night’s sleep shouldn’t be a luxury, but with busy schedules and excess screen time, sleep often gets pushed to the wayside in favour of other priorities. Did you know though, we spend a third of our lives asleep? All of that time counting sheep is essential for maintaining good mental and physical health.
So when it comes to your bed, create the feeling of that blissful sanctuary with high-quality bedding to give yourself the best chance of deep, restorative rest.
And what says luxe more than brushed organic cotton?
When the time comes to snuggle up for a snooze, comfort should be the top priority, but aim to look for GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified cotton to ensure your values aren’t compromised either. We love this minimal white set from Green Fibres or the ethical organic options from Natural Bed Company.
Dreamy.
Tip two: Create a calm environment
What’s one thing a luxury retreat does best? They provide a tranquil atmosphere from the moment you arrive.
But those zen-like vibes aren’t exclusive to a manor house in the countryside, they’re easy to recreate at home thanks to aromachology.
To set the mood, opt for a soothing scent, like Calm. Its unique blend of natural essential oils work together to cleanse the air; with lavender to aid anxiety and insomnia, peppermint to balance the mind, and ginger, a stress-relieving oil to inspire confidence.
Perfect to step into the new year feeling revitalised.
In this month’s Halcyon Naturals Subscription Box, you’ll get Calm’s scent in our Signature Candle, as well as an exclusive wellness treat to bring the hotel to your home. (P.S – use code 1STBOX for £10 off your first box!)
Tip three: Nourish your skin while you sleep
If you’re longing for a spa date but are pinching the pennies (we hear you, Christmas can be pricey!), invest in skincare that will last without scrimping on the royal treatment you deserve.
Two to three times a week, try Aurelia London’s Overnight Recovery Mask. It’s 100% pure BioOrganic botanicals are Leaping Bunny certified, meaning it’s verified as cruelty-free and contains no nasties like parabens or harsh chemicals.
An overnight mask is deeply nourishing for the skin. Simply massage your favourite formula into your face before bed, and cleanse as usual in the morning to wake up refreshed and glowing.

Tip four: Warm up the light
When you come home at the end of the day (or need help transforming your bedroom-come-office), choose warm light to allow yourself to unwind.
Warm light promotes relaxation as it’s in tune with your circadian rhythm, helping you to ease racing thoughts and bring peace to your space. The light simulates early morning and evening light, so think ambient, natural light sources over bright or white main lights.
If you don’t have a fireplace in your bedroom (if only!), candles or Himalayan salt lamps are great choices. But if you’re using regular lamps, switch out incandescent bulbs for those with warm tones, or change the lampshade to diffuse brighter light for an instant cosy feeling.
Grab a book, spritz your favourite room mist and snuggle in for the night.
Tip five: Bring the outside in
If you’ve ever graced the grounds of a luxurious retreat, you’ll no doubt have seen flowers and plants aplenty. And for good reason, nature has an incredible effect on the mind.
Look for empty spaces in your bedroom that can play home to house plants; like windowsills, shelving or even a vacant corner of the floor; and create the indoor jungle dreams are made of.
Air-purifying plants are best here, but if you’re unsure what plants will thrive best in your boudoir, Patch Plants has a handy guide to choosing the right addition.
We love Susie the snake plant for its toxin-fighting leaves that release oxygen at night. Just be sure to check your plants for safety if you’re got furry friends or young children at home!
