It’s oh-so-easy for autumn to be here and then gone again in the blink of an eye.
Whilst summer is filled with leisurely strolls and outdoor dining and whilst Christmas encourages loved ones to come together, autumn can often pass in a bit of a blur.
But not this year.
There are books to read, shows to watch and places to go that will fill your 2023 up with more unforgettable moments.
Board game connections
There’s something about the colder months that just calls for connection! It may be easy to sit at home after a hard day at work, pretending the outside world doesn’t exist and hiding from the cold. But creating moments to be present with the people you love can be a huge help, especially if your mood is negatively impacted by the grumpy weather.
One of our favourite ways to do that is with board games. It’s a chance to have fun, minus the screens. Think less “Hungry Hippos” and more Azul or Ticket to Ride, for a high-level evening that will get everyone thinking. Just add our Family candle to aid in creating deeper connections.
At-home aromachology
For those times when self-care and alone time are what’s in order, you don’t need to leave the house to get that spa-like experience.
Indulge in some aromachology in your own space. Scent psychology is a powerful way to use essential oils to truly impact your mood, allowing you to shape the way you feel.
A few drops of lavender in your bath. Your diffuser filling the room with calm. Or simply our Relax candle lit at the end of the day. Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated.

Mind-broadening events
Autumn is also the ideal time to get out and enjoy some exhibitions and events near you.
It’s currently Black History Month and there are some truly incredible things happening that you don’t want to miss. Da Poetry Jam (October 12th) is a spoken word poetry event, celebrating the richness of black culture. It’s set to be captivating and truly immersive. This Diversity and Astronomy event features a talk from Michael of Stargazers, reflecting on diversity, inclusion and ethnicity within astronomy and stargazing. It will also include a guided walk through the wetlands to view the night sky.
The Missing Thread is the final event we’ll mention, but by no means the final event on offer! Based in Somerset House, it explores the stories of Black British fashion, spanning from the 1970s to today.
Less mindless scrolling, more mindful watching
On the topic of Black History Month, Netflix has a whole host of amazing shows that are perfect for broadening your knowledge of topics such as race and diversity. Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America, Becoming (Michelle Obama’s documentary) and The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson are just a few of the eye-opening options on offer.
Here’s a comprehensive list.
Indulgent new-releases
We couldn’t talk about autumn without recommending you get cosy with a new read!
The next few months have some truly exciting literary releases on the horizon.
First on our list is The Leftover Woman, said to be a poignant read about Jasmine Yang, who arrives in New York after fleeing abuse in China and is set on finding the daughter stolen from her. Next up is Good Material, Dolly Alderton’s latest novel that explores heartbreak, friendship and how to survive both! Excitingly, this romance novel focuses on the male perspective, which is a rarity.
We hope you have a truly wonderful autumn! If you make it even more cosy with a Halcyon Naturals candle, don’t forget to tag us on Instagram @halcyonnaturalsuk.
